Situation in Uganda
As of August 2021, Uganda is in the mist of a second country wide lock down due to the Delta variant of Covid-19. Schools and churches continue to be closed and transportation is still very limited.
The Ugandan government have instituted a number of policies to minimize the spread of the coronavirus. Like most everywhere around the world, many businesses continue to be closed, and many service-sector jobs have been lost. Many of the families Hope Alive! works with, already poor, have lost the little income they had. They also lack refrigeration and other means to store food for any length of time.
The Ugandan economy is still suffering from the global COVID crisis. The global crisis has affected exports, tourism and supply chains. Unemployment is still high, especially in the service sector, and the country is currently experiencing a great deal of unrest, including large protest gatherings, due to the upcoming presidential election. Aid to our families is still desperately needed.
