What is the Emergency Relief Fund?

The Emergency Relief Fund is a designated fund that enables Hope Alive! to respond quickly to unexpected emergencies affecting students, families, staff, or communities served through our ministry.

What kinds of emergencies may qualify?

Each situation is evaluated individually, but examples may include:
  • Temporary shelter following a disaster
  • Food assistance during severe emergencies or natural disasters
  • Family crises that threaten the immediate safety or well-being of a child
  • Other urgent situations approved by Hope Alive!'s leadership.
What does the fund not cover?
  • Routine household expenses
  • School fees or ongoing educational needs
  • Regular food assistance outside of emergency situations
  • Personal debt
  • Business investments or income replacement
  • Long-term financial support
How are requests evaluated?

Requests are submitted through Hope Alive!'s local leadership and reviewed by our Uganda team. Assistance is provided based on the urgency of the situation, available resources, and alignment with Hope Alive!'s mission and policies.

Does every request receive assistance?

No. While we'd like to help whenever possible, resources are limited. Each request is carefully considered, and assistance depends both on the nature of the emergency and the funds available.

Can sponsors give directly to their sponsored student's emergency?

No. If a sponsor is made aware of or is concerned about an emergency involving their sponsored student or family, they should alert a Hope Alive! representative to assess the need and determine how to best address the situation. Hope Alive! will work with the local staff to ensure the needs are met with the greatest possible care to all involved. Questions and concerns can be emailed to [email protected] and the concern will be directed to the appropriate staff.

Why have an Emergency Relief Fund instead of asking supporters to contribute on a case-by-case basis?

Emergencies rarely happen on a convenient timeline. Having a dedicated fund allows Hope  Alive! to respond immediately rather than waiting to raise support after a crisis has already occurred.

How is accountability maintained?

Hope Alive! maintains clear financial oversight and internal approval processes for all emergency assistance. Our Uganda leadership team documents each request, verifies the need, and ensures funds are used for their intended purpose.

Can I contribute to the Emergency Relief Fund?

Absolutely. Gifts of any amount help Hope Alive! respond quickly and effectively when unexpected crises arise. Every donation strengthens our ability to care for vulnerable children and families during their most difficult moments. To give, click on the button below.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes. For U.S. donors, gifts made to Hope Alive! are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. As long as Hope Alive! staff is making the determination regarding how funds are used, gifts provided for emergency assistance are tax-deductible.
