A Beacon of Hope: Community Evangelism in Koro

A ripple of joy and newfound faith burst forth in the community of Lajwatek Village one particular Sunday afternoon.

In this small village, Hope Alive! staff and families gathered together for the sharing of God’s word.  

The meeting took place at the home of a Hope Alive! parent who, according to a kind-hearted mentor, needed the Lord's presence.

Community members young and old journeyed to join in fellowship and seek strength from the word of God. The message of hope shared by a Hope Alive! staff member resonated deeply, encouraging those gathered to persevere in their Christian walk, in the face of the many challenges they encounter on a regular basis. Their souls were uplifted, washed in God’s grace. 

The hostess, recently harshly criticized by the community for practicing witchcraft, found herself moved to tears. While she didn’t accept Christ that day, the Gospel of repentance and new life in Christ inspired her to pursue more of Him. She announced that she would attend the upcoming fellowships in the community. The community, once skeptical of the hostess, witnessed a remarkable change. As she spoke of her newfound hope, the community gained confidence. They ate the food she prepared, despite their previous worries that it had been bewitched, and celebrated the transformation witnessed in her home.

Yet, the impact went even further. Amazingly, the hostess’s 18-year-old daughter, Lucky, and 9-year-old son, Opiyo, boldly confessed their sins and accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior. As the fellowship continued, the younger boy and girl were too excited to eat as they were still overwhelmed by the spiritual transformation unfolding within them.

This testimony is one of the many reasons Hope Alive! regularly gathers communities together to study God’s word. It is a testament to the power of hope, prayers, and the unwavering message of the Gospel. Through shared moments of faith, a once-shunned household was given a second chance—just like the second chance we all receive through putting our faith in Jesus Christ.
