Discovering Gifts: Noeline's Heart for Prayer

Discovering Gifts: Noeline's Heart for Prayer

Students at the Kyabakuza site gathered for a life skills lesson led by their mentors. This time, the mentors talked about discovering the gifts and talents God had given them, and using them to serve others and bring Him glory. They encouraged each student to identify their unique gifts and share how they’ve used them to bless those around them. Many spoke of their talents—singing, dancing, speaking, and encouraging others—but one story stood out.

Fourteen-year-old Noeline had always been quiet, rarely joining in class discussions or activities. This time, however, she spoke up and shared something deeply personal—her gift of praying for others. She recounted how at school she noticed a girl who often sat alone, miserable and in tears. When Noeline reached out to her, the girl confided that her mother was in the hospital battling HIV, and she feared she would lose her.

Noeline understood the power of prayer. She shared her own story of how God had healed her when she was gravely ill. Encouraging her classmate to pray instead of despairing, she began praying with her every break time at school. Two weeks later, the girl’s mother was discharged from the hospital. Noeline’s classmates now turn to her often for prayer, and she’s grateful that God is using her in this way.

We praise God for the way He is using these students to love other students well through their gifts!
