Hope Alive! Opens Fourth Site

Hope Alive! Opens Fourth Site

Group of students and adult leader

In April, Hope Alive! celebrated the opening of its fourth site in Uganda. The new site is in Kyabakuza (cha-ba-KOO-za), a district on the southwestern edge of Masaka. In recent years many of Masaka’s poorest residents, including several Hope Alive! families, have moved from the central city to this more affordable area. Pastor Aloys of Masaka Baptist Church helped Hope Alive! identify a partner church in the new area--Kyabakuza Full Gospel Church, led by Pastor Ellie. Pastor Ellie has led his small church for more than thirty years and has a real heart for the community and for children. Hope Alive! Program Manager Ajwang Carol, Pastor Ellie and Pastor Aloys all participated in the opening ceremonies. The gospel was presented, and four caregivers accepted Jesus as their Savior—a wonderful start for our newest site.

The new Kyabakuza site is being led by a gifted and experienced team. Osborne, a former Hope Alive! mentor, is the head teacher at the small school attached to the church. He and Pastor Elie are both great assets to the site.

Nanyuja Beatrice, a former assistant site manager at Masaka, is now the site manager at Kyabakuza, and she brought four experienced mentors with her. They’ve enrolled 50 students already, most in levels P1-P4. Many of them have already begun schooling, received school supplies and joined in their first few Saturday Clubs. These students come from extremely poor and often difficult family situations, with heart-breaking stories. Beatrice and the mentors have visited every home and are sharing Jesus’ love in practical ways. Hope Alive! is already impacting this new community for Jesus, sharing His love and the good news of salvation.

It has been exciting to experience God leading us to the right area, to partner with the right church, at the right time to reach the children he wants to reach. Join us in prayer for these new children and their future sponsors.
