Josephine's Story
Coming from a “humble background” (very poor), as she calls it, Josephine has seen her life change before her eyes. She joined Hope Alive! in 2005 as a young child. She lived with her aunty and three other siblings in a tiny rented space on the outskirts of Masaka. “I have no fond memories of my parents as they both died when I was very young,” narrated Josephine. She grew up with little or no food to eat, no proper health care, and, worse still, no hope of ever attaining higher level education. Her aunt didn’t have a regular source of income; she did what she could to feed them, cloth them, and ensure they had a roof over their heads, a place to at least call home.
Josephine remembers the first day she joined Hope Alive! vividly. “We were given presents which included bags, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, books, and a lot of other things. It was my first time receiving gifts as a child. That day, I proclaimed, ‘My future is going to be great.’ That’s the day I saw hope; that’s the day I saw light,” said Josephine.
During her schooling, Josephine was actively involved with Hope Alive!’s Masaka Student Leadership Team. Her participation helped keep her focused and improved her communications skills; she was not comfortable speaking in front of people early-on. Today, she articulates her words very well and is confident when communicating. She shared that the love, support, and mentorship of Hope Alive! cultivated this skill in her!
“When the Lord supplies, He surely supplies in abundance. I am overwhelmed by the richness I have in Christ – the blessings bestowed upon me, the light He has put on my path, and the grace to carry on that He has placed upon my chest...Today, I [have] a diploma in Accounting and Finance that I attained in 2018. I would have never felt the joy of achieving my dream of being an accountant if it was not for the help that Hope Alive! rendered to me when I had lost all hope.” Josephine now works for Airtel Uganda.
Josephine is an example of what it looks like when one receives love that upholds, hope that inspires, and sponsorship that provides. Due to your generous support and giving, many of our children have a similar story to Josephine. You contribute to testimonies of lives transformed, hope restored, and Christ’s love shared – thank you!
