Learning to be a Godly Leader
Our site in Masaka organized a special program for student leaders. The multi-lesson program, which will continue over the next two school breaks, is designed to help equip the students with valuable leadership skills. The program covers topics ranging from influence and integrity to initiative and self-discipline based on the book “Lead Today” by John C. Maxwell.
The first sessions were conducted by Kyakwita Immaculate and Byamukama Precious, staff members of Scripture Union Uganda. The main takeaways from each lesson thus far include:
- Influence: I am created in the image of God regardless of age, position, income, race and gender. (Genesis 1:26-28)
- Vision: I am a good leader when I am willing to do what it takes to make God’s vision my reality. (Proverbs 21:5)
- Integrity: I am a good leader when I choose to do right, even when faced with temptation. (Proverbs 10:9)
- Growth: I am a good leader when I work on overcoming my weaknesses. (Proverbs 15:5)
- Initiative: I am a good leader when I see something that needs to be done and do something about it. (Proverbs 27:12)
- Self-Discipline: I am a good leader when I am able to control myself in any and every situation. (Proverbs 25:28)
As a result of this program, the student leaders came up with an initiative to visit one of the Hope Alive! families with chronically ill children to encourage and bless them. They each contributed money to buy maize (corn) flour, soap and sugar to aid the family. They prayed together and pointed to the hope we have in Christ.
We are so happy that our students are taking on the responsibility of reaching out to the vulnerable people within their communities and carrying out Hope Alive!’s vision to bring the healing hope of Jesus to the hurting children of Africa.
