Story of Impact - Akim Kaweesi

Story of Impact - Akim Kaweesi

After battling a strange illness, Akim, a student in Kyabakuza, and his family experienced the life-changing mercy of God.

Akim wrestled with a painful condition that made it difficult for him to sit or move, and he spent most of his day lying in bed. He was regularly missing school and most other social activities. His mother was a Muslim and also a practitioner of the local religion (witchcraft). Throughout Akim’s illness, his mother turned to both of her belief systems for help, but neither Islam nor local religion seemed to have any healing effect on Akim. Eventually, out of desperation, Akim's mom turned to Hope Alive! and asked us to pray to God for his healing.

We gathered and prayed for Akim, but he was not healed. On one of the days that Akim's mentor was visiting him to pray, he noticed the mother had persisted with witchcraft. Akim’s mentor spoke to her and told her that “darkness and light do not mix,” and asked her to stop her traditional practices. From that point on, two Hope Alive! mentors continued to visit the family twice a week to lay hands on Akim and pray. Over time and with consistent prayer, Akim’s body was miraculously healed! When Akim's family realized that Jesus had healed him, they fell to their knees and began to worship the true and living God. Today, the family testifies to God’s goodness through their lives. The mother, Akim, and his sister all put their hope in the one true God who heals!

Life changes like this happen because we have faithful child sponsors and supporters of the Strategic Partner Fund. The Strategic Partner Fund supports Hope Alive! in many ways, like keeping the lights on, meeting special medical needs, and supporting our mentors such as the faithful mentor who was so instrumental in praying for Akim's healing.
