Thank You for Changing My Life

Thank You for Changing My Life

My name is Sarah Agwere. Growing up wasn’t an easy journey for me. Life was full of ups and downs, and I can vividly remember the days I would go without meals. I would call out for my mum to come and rescue me from the pains I was going through.

Little did I know that her life here on earth was quickly dwindling. In early 2002, when I was just six years old, I lost my mum. She was like my God on earth, the only person I trusted and found true love in.  After her death, a dark cloud had swept over my life.

With my only ray of sunshine gone, my aunt took in my eight-month-old sister and me and treated us as if we were her own. She loved us dearly and did everything for us to be fine.

We lived in a one-bedroomed house, a single mum (aunt) with nine children. Mealtime was always a joy. My aunt sacrificed her all to see that we were all fed and dressed. I found happiness again. But with nine children needing to be dressed, schooled, and fed, it was not an easy journey for her or us.

But I can proudly say that God was not yet done. He was still working. Amen.

I didn’t know God then. I never loved him as I do now, and my life didn’t depend on Him as much as it does now. But I can gladly say that it is God who has brought me this far.

In October of 2002, I was blessed to be among the first students to be enrolled in Children of Hope, currently Hope Alive!. Since I have been part of Hope Alive!, I can testify that life has never been the same. With Hope Alive! taking care of all my scholastic needs, I enjoyed every bit of my school journey.

Home became a happy haven. I grew fond of God and learned to love him deeper and deeper every day. Through Hope Alive!, I gained a place to belong as well as a church to call home, and my walk with Christ has never been the same.

Hope Alive! has seen me through school, and I am currently a graduate of Uganda Christan University with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communication.

Hope Alive!, I can’t thank you enough for what you have done, through sponsorship and prayers. Many lives of children and parents here in Africa have been touched and blessed by your generosity. Many young souls have known Jesus through your kindness, and all I can say is that God continues to bless you abundantly.

I want to give special thanks to Aunt Catharine Coon Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for the gift that you brought to Africa. Thank you for the lives that have been transformed. Thank you for changing my story.

To all my sponsors over the years, I am forever grateful for the love and support you have rendered to me: the Dressler family, Ms. Molly Frame, Rachel, and York. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH.

You have changed my story, and I hope one day I will also help change another person’s story.
