The Future is Bright with Hope Alive!

It has always been and always will be our mission to bring the healing hope of Jesus to Uganda. 

Initially focused on transforming the lives of individual children, founder Catharine Coon invited brothers and sisters in Christ to support 51 young people in their academic and personal development. For 20 years, Hope Alive! has walked alongside students to help them fulfill their God-given potential. We celebrate the transformation of hundreds of students and the continued involvement of alumni, many of whom now mentor younger students in their education and discipleship. 

In 2024, we not only provide for the education and mentorship of the student, but we also offer spiritual and social support to the family raising them, for the benefit of their community. Our guiding motto is “The whole child, as part of a whole family, for the good of the whole community.” 

We are: 

Holistic. We invest intentionally in the spiritual, physical, emotional, educational and social well-being of individuals, families and communities. 

Local. We are deeply rooted in and part of the communities that we serve. All site managers and mentors are Ugandan Christians from the local community. We don’t minister from afar, but from hearts and lives that have been woven together through time and proximity. 

Relational. We nurture long-term relationships with every individual in the Hope Alive! family. Students, mentors, staff, and families are known, loved, and cared for.

A Closer Look at Our New Logo
The individual remains in the heart of Hope Alive!. 

The person in the center of our new logo is composed of four arrows: down, up, left and right. Each arrow represents part of the work of Hope Alive!:

• Down: Jesus comes down to all of us to bring us life and hope. 

• Up: Individuals and families rise up through the challenges of life.

• Left/Right: The church, communities and partners support, push and strengthen the individuals toward transformation.

When all of these components come together, we see lives changed, families flourish and students transform their communities for Jesus Christ!

A (Re)NEW(ed) Need

Hope Alive! has always relied on two types of supporters: sponsors, who directly support an individual student’s educational and mentoring needs, and strategic partners, who provide direct support to the overall ministry. The need has increased, and strategic partners are the key!

The Hope Alive! Strategic Partnership Fund provides for the cost of our facilities in Uganda, pays our wonderful and indispensable Ugandan staff, and the many, many other expenses required to run an organization like Hope Alive!.

Hope for today. Hope for tomorrow. HOPE ALIVE! 

A lot has changed over the years, but the heart of the ministry remains the same: Lives changed, families flourishing and communities transformed by and through that one powerful word that changes everything: HOPE!
