Volunteer Appreciation: Dee Dee Gunther, Slayer of Jargon
Kindergarten Sunday School teacher Dee Dee Gunther was introduced to Hope Alive! in the early 2010s, and she immediately caught the vision and jumped in with her class, sponsoring a group of students and praying for them every week. She loved connecting the kids in her class to students in Uganda but had no idea just how much God would grow her own connection to Hope Alive! over time.
Her commitment grew even deeper after visiting Uganda in 2019. During her time with the students and mentors in Koro (Gulu), she was deeply impacted and inspired by the joyful faith and dedication to education displayed by the students, connecting her heart even further to the ministry.
When Dee Dee retired from the workforce, her church leadership recommended her to Hope Alive!’s Board of Directors as a potential member. When the opportunity arose to lead the Board’s Communications committee, Dee Dee didn’t hesitate. For over three years, she has faithfully served as the liaison between the Board and the Communications team while also volunteering directly on the Communications team itself!
Dee Dee loves reviewing the stories, making sure they’re clear and accessible, and helping us avoid too much Christian lingo and jargon.. Her keen eye for detail and creative ideas have helped make our communication more personal, fun and engaging. (While she adores the team, she's still sad about losing her personal battle against the Oxford comma.)
Dee Dee has been our digital wizard, spending hours at the keyboard making thoughtful changes and bringing our website to life! If you’ve enjoyed the fresh, user-friendly design, you can thank Dee Dee for her hard work behind the scenes.
Her faithfulness, dedication, and love for Hope Alive!’s mission shine through in everything she does. Thank you, Dee Dee, for all you've poured into this work! We are blessed by your deep commitment to Hope Alive!
