2018 - Longtime Hope Alive! Students Graduate

2018 - Longtime Hope Alive! Students Graduate

The past three months have been awash with good news of several of our students graduating from University. One thing is true for all these graduates: they joined Hope Alive! in its early years. All of our students and staff had a chance to celebrate, as each of our three sites registered graduates. Here are some of their stories:

Sandra Alum:
Sandra lost her dad when she was only 10 years old. As a result her mom found it hard to look after her and her siblings. They were evicted from their home due to failure to pay rent. Lack of food and school fees were also significant problems. However, once Sandra was enrolled for sponsorship her life changed. School fees were paid and basic needs were met. Sandra was mentored and able to  study her dream course, electrical engineering. She graduated last month.

Mukamusoni Josephine & Racheal Mutebi:  A joint graduation party was held for two of our students from Masaka, Josephine Mukamusoni and Racheal Mutebi, who graduated with diplomas in Accounting and Hotel Management, respectively. As the graduates shared, one thing that stood out was their overflowing gratitude towards their mentor.

Josephine, who joined Hope Alive! in 2005, recalled the hard circumstances she went through before she was sponsored. Lack of food, school fees, and bedding were just a few of the problems that she and her family experienced. However, all this changed when she joined Hope Alive!. She was given a godly mentor named Provia. Josephine attributes a lot of the transformation she went through to her mentor, who also went the extra mile to advise her, pray for her, and even give of her personal finances whenever Josephine was in dire need. This impacted Josephine deeply.

During Josephine's time with Hope Alive!, she served her fellow students for several years as a student leader. Currently Josephine works at a pharmacy. She hopes to practice accounting in the future. During her speech at the party, an emotional Josephine couldn't hold back tears of joy as she thanked God, the church, Catharine Coon, and her mentor for helping her go through this education journey.

Racheal, Masaka's other graduate, was also deeply grateful for the life-changing impact of Hope Alive!. Racheal, who studied hotel management, has a job with a hotel in Kampala, Uganda's capital city.
Ndikabona Ambrose: Ambrose joined Hope Alive! in 2004. He lost both his dad and mom within a short period of time. He and his elder brother were left on their own, becoming what is known as a child-headed home. During this time, they were strongly supported by Hope Alive!. At his graduation, Ambrose noted that his life was all about God and Hope Alive!, especially since his rent, feeding, and medical and school fees came from the organization. He also enjoyed a close relationship with his sponsor that gave him a sense of belonging. Seeing Ambrose persevere through the difficulties and flourish into a successful graduate of industrial training is a powerful testimony that is encouraging many of Hope Alive!'s younger students.
